Announced the 2011 Academy Awards Nominations

The 2011 Academy Award Nominations were announced. Although there were some disappointments, the Academy's choices still included several surprises, and with 12 nominations, “The King’s Speech” leads the field of contenders.

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences announced its nominees for the 83rd annual Oscars scheduled for February 27, 2011. This year’s ceremony will be co-hosted by the young actors James Franco and Anne Hathaway.

The British drama set in the early 20th century, “The King’s Speech” staring Colin Firth, Helena Bonham Carter and Geoffrey Rush received the biggest number of nominations, collecting 12 nods, including best picture, more than any other movie.

Second came the western remake by the Coen brothers which takes place in the 19th century, “True Grit”, staring Jeff Bridges and Hailee Steinfeld, which received 10 nominations, including best picture and acting honors.

 Also showing a strong stance was the Facebook story, “The Social Network”, with 8 nominations including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor, yet after it was seen as a sure winner for Best Picture till last week, its chances seem to have fallen.

Other acting nominations include Christian Bale, Colin Firth and Annette Bening, while other nominees for best picture include Black Swan, The Fighter, Inception, The Kids Are All Right, 127 Hours, Toy Story 3 and Winter's Bone.
